The Catalogus geometrarum from the Corpus Agrimensorum

Abstract An overlooked fragmentary Latin text preserved in the Corpus of Roman Land Surveyors proves to be a translation lost branch Aratean commentary tradition. Stripped classicizing veneer mistakenly applied by earlier editors, fragment can recognized as work an unknown and inept late-antique Translator, perhaps working within generation fragment’s earliest manuscript witness, Codex Arcerianus. The tradition used this Translator made use Euclid ‘the Sicilian’, authority now absent from surviving tradition: if is identical with famous geometer, argued here, we may have radical new evidence for his homeland, hitherto unknown. was equipped interlinear glosses illustrations type otherwise unattested
